All about the exhibition…
Time is Precious, But How Do We Relate to It?
Time is a concept both precious and elusive, finite yet infinite. But is it truly equal for everyone? Why does it feel like there’s never enough of it? Why does happiness seem fleeting, while misery lingers on? And if we dive deeper, as Buddhist cosmology and Einstein’s theory of relativity suggest, is time actually unequal depending on how we experience it?
In our quest to understand time, we turn to nature. Its cycles—the changing of seasons, the rhythm of day turning into night—are the original measure of time. Yet, despite this inherent structure, time itself remains an abstract wonder, something that sparks both curiosity and skepticism. Aristotle once said that time is simply the measure of change, but it’s more than that. It’s how we interact with the world, how we flow with—or against—its rhythms.
Human beings have always sought to measure, control, and understand time. Long before the first clocks were created, we had our own biological clocks ticking in sync with the natural world. But in our relentless pursuit of progress—building, inventing, shaping—we’ve also caused massive disruption, pushing the limits of the world around us. So, perhaps the true answer lies in surrendering to the greatness of nature, not trying to conquer it. After all, the earth’s contributions far outshine our own existence.
If we consider a time when the only markers of time were the shifting patterns in nature—when the behavior of plants and animals, the transition from day to night, the turning of seasons—might we return to a place where we are in harmony with the flow of time? What if we lived with the simplicity of just “one day and one night,” following nature’s own rhythms? Could we rediscover the purest truth of time, not tied to the past or future, but anchored in the present?
Angkrit Ajchariyasophon, born in 1976 in Chiang Rai, invites us to reflect on time through his abstract paintings. His work is a visual meditation on nature’s cycles and our relationship with them, a celebration of the present moment. Through his art, he expresses the harmony and disharmony of our environment, the conflicts and the beauty that coexist in nature. His use of color, texture, and medium captures not just the surface of the world, but the deeper essence of what it means to be in time—to be part of something far greater than ourselves.
One Day and One Night is an invitation to pause, to look closely at what surrounds us, and to reconnect with the flow of time we’ve distanced ourselves from. It’s a call to become synchronized with nature again, in the here and now. In a space as creative and inspiring as The Standard—where art and life intersect—we have the opportunity to reflect, interpret, and ultimately find our place in the unfolding tapestry of time.
